Stocking the Kitchen
Getting started on a new lifestyle can be daunting. Here are some ideas to help get your kitchen stocked for easy meals and snacks.
Pantry Basics:
Sea Salt
Black Pepper
Olive Oil
Coconut Oil
Canned Coconut Milk (make sure it has no added sugar)
Almond Butter (or cashew, etc)
Nuts of your choice (NO PEANUTS)
Tomato Paste (no sugar added, and preferably no salt added)
Tomatoes (diced, whole, crushed – again no sugar and salt added)
Mustard
Chicken & Beef Stock
Any spices you like – some good ones to start with are garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, chili powder and cinnamon)
Beef Jerky
Fridge/Freezer Staples:
Coconut or Almond Milk (if you buy the cartons, make sure they are unsweetened with no sugar added)
Frozen homemade stock (if possible, this is preferred to store-bought)
*Grass-Fed Beef
*Pastured Chicken and Pork Products
*Pastured Eggs
*Wild caught seafood
Frozen berries & veggies for quick snacks, meals and to add to smoothies
*Grass-Fed and Pastured raised meat products, as well as wild caught fish are preferred on the paleo plan. If this is not possible for you, make sure that you increase your intake of Fish Oil (the Omega-3′s especially) to balance this off. If you do not, then your fat ratios will be off and your blood work might not show improvements.
With these lists in hand, you should be able to create many different meal combinations and quick snacks. If your spice cabinet isn’t stocked well, buy a new spice every week to avoid a huge expense upfront and mix and match!
